Innovation and research for the new EM series wood drying systems

ISVE S.p.A. has launched a R&D project focused on a new generation of EM series vacuumwood drying kilns, with the goal of bringing to the market a more effi cient, sustainableand high-performance technology for the wood industry.

The project stems from the company’s commitment to strengthening its internationalposition in the wood treatment sector by investing in advanced innovation andcollaborating with some of Italy’s leading centers of excellence in engineering andadvanced manufacturing.

The development program is carried out in collaborationwith CSMT – Centro Servizi Multisettoriale e Tecnologico and MADE Competence Center, the national center ofexcellence for digital and industrial innovation promotedby Politecnico di Milano.

ADVANCED ENGINEERING AND FLUID DYNAMIC SIMULATIONS

The core of the project focuses on the fl uid dynamic redesign of the drying kilns, withthe objective of increasing the uniformity of the drying process.
Research into fl uid dynamics has led to the development of an innovative designsolution based on internal baffl e systems capable of distributing the airfl ow across thestacks of wood, thereby ensuring better control of the drying process.

The new technological concept will provide severaloperational advantages for users: improved drying uniformity across diff erentproduction batches reduction of wood defects such as cracks, warping and internal stresses shorter cycle times improved energy effi ciency of the process. These results represent a signifi cant step towardincreasingly effi cient, sustainable and quality-oriented drying systems.

TOWARDS THE INDUSTRIAL PROTOTYPE

The project has already led to the development of the 3D engineering models andsimulations required to move forward with the construction and testing of the industrialprototype of the new kiln generation.

This initiative represents a further milestone in ISVE’s strategy to invest in technologicalinnovation, sustainability and digitalization of industrial processes, strengthening thecompany’s role as an international reference in wood processing technologies.
